Meet Fatimah, our fabulous Office Assistant at Accelerating Asia!

Where is your hometown?

What are some of your previous working experiences?

I moved to Selangor, Malaysia after school and began working there. I’ve worked as an executive secretary at a large-scale conglomerate, then moved on to events planning at a Football Academy. Making the decision to move back to Singapore in 2017, I started work at a Voluntary Welfare Organization as a Fundraising Executive before joining Accelerating Asia.

Why did you decide to join Accelerating Asia?

I was attracted to the dynamic energy that you get from working with startups. It’s a very refreshing change from the formal, corporate atmosphere that I come from.

What are you most excited for when you come onboard?

I’m excited at the chance to grow, learn, and develop.

What are your favorite books?

As an English major, I really should be declaring my dying love for Dickens or something but honest-to-God, I’m a Harry Potter nerd, through and through.

What is your binge-worthy TV show/series?

I’m a sucker for K-dramas and crime thrillers. I just binge-watched 3 seasons of Broadchurch over 2 days. I also thoroughly enjoy medical dramas - mainly only for the Drama of it all.

What is on your travel bucket list?

I have a very long travel bucket list, I haven’t had much opportunity to travel but right at the top of the list is Istanbul.

What is one thing that is unexpected of you?

I’m a bit of an introvert so most people are surprised when they find out that I am a huge adrenaline junkie. Ideally, I wind down best by flinging myself off a building or braving the rapids in an inflatable raft. Nothing is as pleasurable as the imminent threat of death.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I love outdoor activities like bowling, go-karting and anything that gives me an adrenaline rush. I especially love the high elements at theme parks and I’m past due for yet another visit to USS soon.

What’s your dream vacation?

I love beach vacations and water activities so I’ve always wanted to go to - arguably - the most beautiful beach destination ever - Maldives.

What is one thing that you would like to accomplish by the end of 2019?

By year end, I would like to finally learn how to ride a bicycle.

OK there’s a story that goes with this - when I was 5, I was given two options for my birthday gift. Either a bicycle or a beautiful, princess-ish dress (that comes with matching floral headband and a teeny-tiny beaded handbag) so really, can you blame me??

If you could live anywhere, where would it be?

Oh definitely, the Wizarding World. Where else could I magically get rid of a zit instantly and drink a potion to re-grow bones? Yeah, I was NOT kidding about being a huge Harry Potter Nerd.

If you could choose to do anything for a day, what would it be?

If I could do anything for a day, I’d probably be a surgeon. I watch too much Greys’ Anatomy and would DIE for a chance to say “ Time of Death, 1115 am” over someone’s newly-departed soul. I guess, not a capable surgeon then.

If you could go back in time, what year would you travel to?

I would travel back to 1999 and tell 7-year old me that not everyone can pull off bangs.

What is your favorite family holiday tradition?

So my family celebrates Eid, and one tradition that we have is to buy new PJs and stay up the night before Eid to watch the specials on the telly. Since Eid typically comes after a whole month of fasting, I would also naturally challenge myself to consume the most number of calories in that one night.
